Cupcake Tower, Repurposed Style

This is another PPC (personal pinterest challenge) for me, and I finished it months ago, but life is always so crazy I am just now getting to posting it.

Aaaaand... I haven't had an excuse to make cupcakes either, but my oldest son turned 13 today and I made these for his scout troop.  I was so happy I remembered to take pictures before they got eaten!

Yum!!

Anyway, I am sure you are wondering where I pinned this project from.  The cute girls at Shanty2Chic always have the cutest projects and I followed the tutorial for their DIY Shanty Cupcake Tower, Here.

Mine is a little different though, I made it completely out of repurposed wood.

I started buy using old sunroom wood, (also used Here and Here) cut the pieces according to the tutorial measurements.  Then attached them with pocket holes.  To cut the wood into circles, I used the old fashioned method of finding different sized bowls, traced them on the wood, and cut each one with a jigsaw, then sanded the edges smooth. (phew!)

I still had some parts to an old crib I had gotten off the side of the road (also used Here).  I cut them up and tried a dry fit in the picture on the top right.  Then I glued and nailed all the pieces together.

I decided to stain it first in dark walnut.  And I actually liked the result, but the cut edges were a little too dark.  So I spray painted in a cute blue color I had.

I love how the dark came through when I distressed.

I sealed it with three coats of poly and sanded between coats.  It is ready for cupcakes!

I have twenty four cupcakes on it in the picture, but it could totally hold more.

Perfect for any party!
